Mac Q & A: Turn off the Caps Lock key

September 20, 2009 by Mark Ratledge

My Mac Q & A Question: Is there a way to turn the Caps Lock key off on my Mac? I keep hitting it by accident. A.K., Missoula

Yes, it’s possible and it’s easy. I have my Caps Lock key turned off on my MacBook because I (used to) keep hitting it. The capability to turn the key off is built into OS X.

Go to the Keyboard & Mouse Preferences (in System Preferences, either under the Apple Menu or by the Preference icon in the Dock). Then Select Modifier Keys. And then change Caps Lock Key to No Action.
